Additional Safety features
The following are optional filtering presets designed to give a greater level of protection. All default profiles will include Safe Search lock and Search word filtering.
Safe Search lock
Enables safe search mode for all searches on google, yahoo, bing and many others. This employs the filtering technology of the search engines and well as Webshield. Part of default profile
Search word filtering
Filters search words and terms on all search engines. For example looking up “porn” in any search engine would be blocked and no results returned. Part of default profile
URL key word filtering
Filters the URL string on the internet address for certain key words and phrases. For example a photography site containing nudity may display the following address. www.photo.com/albums/nudes the key word filter would pick this up and block it.
3 Strikes Blocking
An anti tamper feature which detects pre meditated searched for inappropriate material. When the filter detects 3 pornography block pages with in a 5 minute period is suspends internet access for 5 minutes.
Pattern Blocking
Online games do not opperate through web pages but via hundreds of servers which work together to create the game environment. Blocking these can be challenging as all the servers need to be known and blocked. By using pattern matching our filtering looks for characteristics in the data and matches it against the characteristics of the game. The same technique is sued to filter encrypted bit torrent, peer to peer and proxyies.
Peer to Peer, bit torrents and Tor
These are protocal based services that are deisgne to by pass content filtering technology. They are not web based and they are often encrypted which means tha data resembles seccure banking sites. Webshields layer 7 protocal filter has the ability to diferentiate based on individual data packets. Customers then have the option of blocking passing or allowing on a timed basis.
